Thank you for considering Great Wyrley Academy as a place where you can continue your learning and development. We run a collegiate sixth form with Cheslyn Hay Academy and Mrs Morgan is the designated Head of Sixth Form for the two schools.  I am very proud to be the newly appointed Sixth Form Lead here at Great Wyrley who will work alongside Mrs Morgan to support students through the next stage in their educational journey. I appreciate the choices students will now make are not easy ones and that is why we are here to offer guidance and support through the application stage.

Through this well-established collegiate, we can offer a wide and varied selection of subjects and courses. We offer different pathways that include both academic and vocational courses. By utilising the skills and experience at both schools, we are able to offer a breadth of courses to give students more variety and choice. This has been a successful partnership for a number of years and we continue to work together to ensure that the Sixth Form continues to thrive.

Specialist subject teachers provide the best teaching and learning experiences, enabling all students to maximise their potential and to experience academic success.

We also have an experienced team of Sixth Form tutors who will provide support and guidance to students.  Mrs Morgan and myself will be onsite throughout the week should students have any queries or worries.

When not attending formal timetabled lessons, students will have access to our newly refurbished sixth form work rooms.  We have provided these work rooms solely for the use of sixth form students that they can access at any time throughout the school week. Students are expected to make the best use of their study periods and complete the required four hours of personal study per subject each week.  Students will also have the opportunity to complete the Extended Project Qualification.  This is a widely recognised qualification that allows students to develop their research and study skills by investigating a topic of their choice.

While we focus a lot of attention on academic success, we also aim to provide opportunities for students to develop other skills and prepare themselves for life after school.  Students will be able to take part in various Enrichment activities such as supporting Key Stage 3 pupils in their lessons.  There are also opportunities to take part in charity events and whole-school activities.  We hope that our Sixth Form students aspire to be excellent role models for the rest of the school and actively participate in all aspects of school life.

We pride ourselves at Post-16 in conducting ourselves in a professional manner and we dress accordingly. We are extremely proud of the business dress code that we have in our Sixth Form and students are expected to adhere to this dress code at all times.

We value the opinions of all of our students and at Post-16 we encourage students to use their voice and work alongside staff to help us to make improvements where needed around our school.

By choosing to study at Great Wyrley Academy Sixth Form, students will be opting to study in an environment with a strong sense of community; where everyone is valued, supported and encouraged to develop both academically and socially.

I look forward to welcoming you to Great Wyrley Academy Sixth Form.
